Seasonably Sunny This Week

Good morning everybody!

As the above graphic shows, we have a giant ridge of high pressure in the Eastern Pacific right now. This is a very typical August setup, and tends to give us cloudy mornings, sunny afternoons, and a healthy seabreeze on the coast. For the next few days, it looks like we’ll have just that in store.

We started out with cloudy skies this morning throughout Western Washington this morning, but as the satellite image below shows, those clouds have thinned out by 11 am, and we should have mostly sunny skies in a couple hours or so.

Tonight, our onshore flow will be weaker, so we will have fewer clouds Thursday morning than today. As a result, Thursday will be our warmest day of the week, with highs near 80 in Seattle and even warmer to the south. We’ll have a stronger marine push on Thursday night leading to morning clouds on Friday, but we should still be treated to sunny skies in the afternoon to finish the work week!

With such a large difference in temperature between the cold Pacific Ocean and the relatively warm land, we’ll get some brisk sea breezes this week. Check out the sustained winds predicted for Thursday night! As is usually the case, the strongest winds are right off the Oregon/California border. Gale warnings are already up over there, and don’t expect them to go away any time soon!

Enjoy your week! 🙂
